BIG EXPLOSION
POWDER WORKS IN U.S.A.
(Received January 18, 11 a.m.)
GIBBSTOWN (Philadelphia), Jan. 17. The explosion of 60001b of nitro-gly-cerine destroyed a unit of the Dupont powder works and shattered windows for fifteen miles. At least two people were killed and two injured. An area fifty miles wide was rocked. The casualties were not greater because the units are specially constructed and are isolated. The company posted twentyseven additional guards at the plant a fortnight ago to guard against sabotage.
