HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on Monday. Mr. J. W. Andrews, Mayor, presided.
Permission was granted to two picture theatres to show approved pictures on Christmas Day.
The band committee reported that the Civic Band had made three public appearances during the month, and that a junior band had been formed.
The annual dog licence fees were fixed at 2s 6d and 10s.
It was decided to enforce the 10 per cent, penalty on all outstanding rates after February 6, 1940.
The works committee reported that in reply to an inquiry about the delay in erecting street lights in the Rumgay-Johnson block the Electric Power Board had stated that the Housing Department had asked for special fittings, which were being made.
The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society thanked Mr. E. Hutt, superintendent of reserves, for his excellent display at the recent show.
The sum of £50 was passed for the repairing of the roof of Riddiford Baths, and £75 for the installation of loudspeaker systems at the grandstand and at Riddiford Baths.
The charge for the use of the floodlights on the Recreation Ground, when no charge for admission to the ground was made, was fixed at 6d per lamp per hour, no period of less than half an hour to be charged for.
Pursuant to notice, Councillor A. Marshall moved that the charge for the floodlights when an admission charge was made should be 20 per cent, of the gate takings and half the grandstand takings, with a minimum of £6. The motion was carried.
