CHAUMINADE CLUB

YOUNG WOMEN MUSICIANS

A varied programme of ensembl«and^solo items was presented by the members of the Chauminade Club in their third annual recital, which tookplace in Nimmo's Hall last evening. The Chauminade Club is a circle of amateur women musicians who have formed a society for the mutual benefit and growth of their art. and last night's recital showed just how mucll the club had flourished since its inception three years ago. The programme opened with an instrumental quintet comprised of Mrs. A.' F. Holdstock and Miss Cecily Collins (violins), Miss Gwen Evans and.. Miss Clemency King ('cellos) and Miss Valeric Collins (piano), who playedthe:Minuet and Trio from the "Sur*. prise" Symphony . (Haydn). Pianoforte solos were played by Mrs. K. L. Journet, "Reverie . d'Amour" (York Bowen); Miss Gladys Lang, "Fantasie'* (Mozart) and "April" (John Ireland); Miss Marcia Bacon, "The Ogre"(Frank Bridge) and "Passe Pied" <D.c- . libes); Miss Margaret Stuart, "Pre-. ludes Nos. 20 and 6" (Chopin); Miss Valeric Collins, "Night Fancies" (Dale); and Miss Joan Kellaway, "Submerged Cathedral" (Debussy) and "Night in May" (Palmgren). Violin solos were given by Mrs. A. F. Holdstock, who played two movements of Sonata No. -3 ■ (Corelli) and "Rondino" (Beethoven), Mrs. J. W. Leslie. "Slavonic Dance* (Liszt), "Praeludium and Allegro* (Pugnani-Kreisler), and Miss .Cecily: Collins, "Sarabande" (Cox-elliC V;io-^ loncello solos were presented by Miss Gwen Evans, who played "Sonata .(Eccles). and ... Miss .Clemency King, who played " "Air" (Matheson) and_ "Gondoliera" (Squire). Mrs. .G. Kel- 5 laway sang three numbers, "When Daisies Pied" (Arne), "Cradle Son';" (Delius), and "Maiden Dearest." The programme concluded with "Round the North Sea" Suite (Markami L*ee), played by the instrumental quintet. During the interval the club's president, Miss Gladys Lang, presented Mis 3 Eudora. Henry with a sheaf of carnations as a token of appreciation for her invaluable help and untiring efforts on the club's behalf.
