AVONDALE MEETING

A FAST TRACK LIKELY

A fast track will be provided for the opening of the Avondale Jockey Club's Second Spring Meeting tomorrow, unless rain should fall between now and starting time, for a hot sun and siron? winds have; dried out ths ground in these parts. Fields are good throughout and will provide plenty of scope under the win-and-place betting system. A NEbW DISTANCE. The King George Handicap, to be run over a new distance on this track, one mile and three furlongs, is. now headed by Royal Appellant, wfyo is more partial to easy ground. Balinavar will be suited by this event, for he was narrowly beaten at Paeroa over seven furlongs and then was left at the post in the main handicap on the second day at Ellerslie when very heavily backed. The likely favourite is Birthday Boy, for he has been steadily on the upgrade since he started racing at Pakuranga and his two efforts at the Auckland Spring Meeting were very solid. Scotland indicated at Tauranga last month that he was in good form and he subsequently ran fairly well at Ellerslie. Requiem, Palmint, and Raceline are promoted hacks and of this trio Palmint should do best, for he was running on at the end of the mile at Whangarei last Saturday. The main interest in the Electric Handicap will be taken in Llangollen's task of conceding weight all round to her nine opponents, especially as the pace will be on all the way. Orate too in now high up but he is in firstclass condition. Francis Drake is due for a return to form. Further down the scale the chances of Royal Bachelor, Bronwen, Valimeen, Aero King, Bachelor King, and Miss Te Koura are hot negligible, and wheri the pressure is on Valimeen may be bothering the topweights. ■'-•--•■' The following are. horses bracketed on the totalisator:—Trial Stakes, Pleuron and Valley Maid; Three Kings Handicap, Bronze Moth and Dragon Moth, High Delight ahd Rival.
