U-BOATS EVADED

LONDON, September 20.
A bulletin issued by the Ministry ot Information states that a homeward-, bound steamer whose name is not disclosed outdistanced and escaped" from a, submarine"" It ignored two shots' across its bows, crowded on steam, and' shook off its pursuer after a chase of' an hour.
It is revealed that 50 French merchantmen which were on the high seaa when war was declared escaped the. German, patrols.
