NEW WORLD ORDER

MEN MUST CHANGE

OXFORD GROUP DISCUSSION

The enlistment of youth for the building of a new world order was the subject of discussion at a meeting at the Oxford Group Assembly in Wellington last night. Regarding the question of enlistment in the armed forces, it was explained that the Oxford Group did not lay down any rules in this or in any such matter. Such issues were left entirely to the individual. "Youth today is being enlisted for destruction because we have failed to unite for construction," said Mr. J. Linton, leader of the meeting. "We must enlist youth for remaking the world. Moral re-armament stands for a re-made world —it is a practical policy for^ rebuilding a hate-force, i greed-free, fear-free world. The i world today is sick. To change systems without changing men is to carry over the disease. You can't make good omelets out of bad eggs. The only i way to build a nation that will contribute to a new world is to build it on, the four standards of M.R.A. —absolute honesty, purity, unselfishness, and love. Youth led by God can remake i the world." [ "Today we are living In a chaos of i uncertainty and fear, J< said Mr. Alan Low. Wellington. "My job is economics, and I am convinced that the cause of that chaos is not economic, but fundamentally moral and spiritual. The, Cross of Christ must be the centre of. the nation's life before reconstruction can accomplish anything." Miss Pauline Monkman, an instructress in physical culture, said that she had found that spiritual as well as physical fitness was an essential in her work and she had 'found that through learning to listen to God. "I am one of the post-war generation who threw over the taboos that age had imposed," said Mr. Percy Cook, Hawkers Bay. "My ambitions were a good home, good wife, good job, but I realised that I was trying to feather my nest in a tottering tree. Then God awakened me, and it is good to be awake. Youth today can write a new | testament of youth." "Education trained my mind, but did not give me the answer to my fears j and selfishness," said another speaker. ! "Mental fitness means sterility if it is I not accompanied by spiritual fitness. This new spirit that remakes men and nations must be taken into every avenue of the nation's life." Mr. R. McKenzie, a land agent, of Dunedin, said that dishonesty in business was reflected in the nation's life. Through M.R.A. first his home, then his business had been changed, and he found the conclusive answer to fear and depression in business today. "With God the drive of youth can remake the world," said Mr. John Maclean, a Wellington bank clerk. "We need the enthusiasm of youth combined with the wisdom of age to meet the problems of today," said Miss Janet Willis. Wellington. "The wisdom of (jod can become the commodity of the common people." Other speakers were Miss Edith Clare, Dunedin; Mr. George Lethbridge, Marton; Mr. W. Coffey, Melbourne; Miss Dorothy Robins, Messrs. W. Hines and J. Cooper, Wellington.
