CENTENNIAL GOLF

PRIZE ALLOCATION

As already announced, the council of the New Zealand Golf Association has cancelled the special Centennial tournaments in October and November at Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington. However, in conformity with the Government's expressed wish with regard to the continuance of normal games and sports events, it has decided that the ordinary annual New Zealand open and amateur championship events will take place, from November 9 to 17, at Wellington on the Miramar course. For these events the programme already issued will apply except as to the prize-money, the total amount of which will be £400.

This amount is allocated to the various events, as under: —

Open championship, £185 (first professional £60, second professional £35, third professional £20. and the next seven £10 each).

Professional championship, £145 (£6O, £35, £25, and £25).

Professional foursomes, £60 (winners each £20, second each £10).

Long-driving competition, £ 10.

This is more than has been provided previously, but the amount has been increased owing to the expected abandonment of the professionals' tournament usually held annually in February.
