LABOUR QUESTIONS
INDUSTRIAL COUNCIL
Acting under emergency power, the Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) last night announced the appointment of an Industrial Emergency Council to assist him in dealing with any labour questions that may arise as a result of measures taken to meet war conditions. Mr^ Webb said that the personnel of the council would be as follows: —Mr. T. O. Bishop, Captain S. Holm,. Mr. H. J. Knight, Mr. W. Marshall, Mr. A. C. Mitchell, Mr. A. W. Nisbet, Mr. A. P. O'Shea, Mr. A.1 Rowlands. Mr. A. McLagan, Mr. J. Roberts. Mr. F. P. Walsh. Mr. F. Cornwell, Mr. F. G. Young, Mr. R. Eddy, Mr. R. Brooks, Mr. W. Clarke.
"I have appointed the Industrial Emergency Council realising that the production of all commodities within, New Zealand must not only be maintained at the present level, but must be increased as far as possible during the war," Mr. Webb said. "There is no doubt that many questions involving the relationship between workers and employers and calling for full co-opera-tion will arise from time to time in all industries, and it is felt that the appointment of the council will enable these matters to be dealt with reasonably and quickly."
