ibv L'elegraph— Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day,
The utilisation for patriotic purposes of the machinery of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Council is likely to follow a drastic reduction in the programme of the celebrations for the metropolitan area which, y on the recommendation of the executive, was unanimously confirmed at a meeting of members of all sub-committees last night. The metropolitan programme, estimated to cost £35.000, has been radically curtailed.- A willingness to undertake the collection, administration, and disbursement of patriotic funds was expressed by the metropolitan executive and. subject to Government approval, the personnel of the metropolitan organisation will be adapted to the patriotic endeavour, and the balance remaining from the Cen tennial fund, after carrying out the curtailed programme, will form the nucleus of a metropolitan donation to the patriotic fund. Proceedings were adjourned for a month.
