WAR FINANCE
PROPOSED BILL
LEGISLATION NOT READY
OTHER MEASURES
After a meeting of Cabinet today thf Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) said that the Government wai not yet ready to introduce its war finance legislation and that the possibility was that it may not appear" until next week.
Despite the delay indicated by Mr. Fraser's announcement, it is learned that the House of Representatives will have plenty to occupy its attention until the major legislation appears. Amendments to the Social Security Act have still to be passed. These will rectify a number of anomalies, in accordance with promises already made by the Government, and will include a clause carrying out an agreement made between the Government and the British Medical Association* in respect to the maternity benefit contracts.
It is almost certain that a Bill extending the p/ovisions of the Fair* Rents Act and possibly dealing with other aspects of this question will also be brought down.
