LOCAL LEGISLATION
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
A clause in the Local Legislation Bill, which was introducd in the House of Representatives by Gover-nor-General's Message late last night, authorises the Eastbourne Borough Council to extend its existing ferry service to provide motor and ferry transport services for the purposes of the Centennial Exhibition.
Another clause arising out of the holding of the Exhibition empowers the Board of Trustees of the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum to borrow up to £2000 to meet preliminary expenses in connection with the holding of an a.rt exhibition as part of the Centennial celebrations.
Expenditure made by the Nelson Hospital Board totalling £1000 by way of compensation to nurses who lost their belongings in the fire at' the nurses' home is validated by, another clause in the Bill.
The following contributions by local bodies to the Wellington Free Ambulance are authorised: —Wellington Hospital Board, £1250; Wellington Harbour Board. £300; Hutt County Council, £150; Makara County Council. £86.
