THE LEAGUE TEAM

ARRIVAL AT LONDON

TASTE OF WAR CONDITIONS

(By Air Mall, from "The Post's" London Representative.) i LONDON, August 30.

A taste of war conditions was experienced by members of the New Zealand Rugby League team, which reached London yesterday.

Due to the tension caused by the international situation, the ship was diverted from her usual course, but, nevertheless, reached London twelve hours ahead of schedule. Complete preparations • were made for the black-ing-out of port (holes; Captain H. Barnett remained on the bridge for. 36 hours on end before the Rangitiki reached port. The New Zealand team was met at Tilbury by the High Commissioner, Mr. W. J. Jordan, who wished them every success for their tour. As he drove away from the docks the team lined the upper deck and sang "Maoriland." This morning they left for Harrogate. Yorkshire, to prepare for their first'match in two days' time. There was a notable lack of exuberance among both passengers and their friends who met them at Tilbury. The Danzig crisis had been followed closely by those on board and every radio news bulletin was listened to carefully.
