BONNYBELLE FOR STUD

It is stated that Bonnybelle has finished racing, having failed to stand up to training. This is a pity, for, while she never won a race, she exhibited a lot of speed in her races and at Ellerslie in June had finished second in a hack sprint. She is by Vaals from Archeno, a daughter of Archiestown and Maneno, by Soult.

There were two casualties at Avondale the first day, Tutor cutting himself rather badly when he came into contact with a fence during the running of the Kingslan'd Hurdles and Jayola, who pulled up very lame after contesting the Avondale Cup.

A hack who should not be long in winning is Wyndora, who was not well placed in the early stages of the hack sprint last Saturday, but eventually finished sixth, a good effort under the circumstances. She is a half-sister by Whirlwind to Croupier and is engaged next week at Paeroa.

Flood Tide has not yet appeared this season, but judging by the work he is being set these days it will not be long before he makes his bow once more. His first outing will be in the Mitchelson Cup, and as he is a fine stayer he may take beating, for he won this race three years ago when having his first1 race for a long time. Marie's Acre was one of the many unsighted in the sprint on the first day of the Avondale Meeting, and he is going to be difficult to place in this class. He is a gross horse and no amount of galloping seems to bring him into racing condition, and it would appear as if his future racing prospects depend upon his being added to the list. The Cardinal was not produced on the second day at Avondale, and his only other race in the spring prior to the New Zealand Cup may oe m the Mitchelson Cup next month. He is looking a greatly-improved horse, and as he won last week with a light impost he cannot be weighted heavily in the Riccarton event. It was sheer stamina that enabled him to win on Saturday, for Airam fought him stride for stride over the final furlong, and despite the fact that she was more seasoned The Cardinal outstayed her. Lovaals, winner of the Avondale Stakes, comes of a great family of winter performers, and the fact that the going was heavy last Saturday no doubt assisted the filly to hit out in her best style even if she was a bit lucky to beat both Kentucky and Beau Leon. The winner is a nicely-built filly, with plenty of size for her age, and she added to the list of successes this season scored by the fillies, which suggests that they come to hand much quicker than the colts.
