Beau Vite opened his account in Australia on Saturday by winning the Cariterßufy Stak^fe, beating bbth Gold Rod and Brazant in the good time of lmin 12£ sec for six furlongs. The other visiting Ne\v Zealander, Paddy the Rip, weakened in the run hdme in the Ashbury Handicap, a mile and a furlong, won by Rathlin, in the course record time of lmin 52£ sec. Results were:— ' CANTERBURY STAKES, £500; • 6 furlongs. R. Stewart's br c Beau Vite, by Beau Pere —Dominant, 3yrs (Cook) .. 1 Gold "Red, 9.2 (McCafteh)'. .... 2 Brazant, 9.2 (Coutts) 3 Six started. A length; three lengths. Time, lmin 12Jsec. CANTERBURY GUINEAS, £525; 1 mile and 1 furlong. H. Lachmuhd's blk c Bonny Loch, by Rampion—Bonnie Valeric, 3yrs, 8.5 (Cook) 1 Marengo, 8.5 (McCarten) 2 Dashing Cavalier, 8.5 (Coutts) 3 Six started. Head; a, neck. Time, lmin 53sec —a race record. W. Cook, who rode Beau Vite, is confident that the colt will win the A.J.C. Derby. "No colt I have ridden has so impressed me as a prospective Derby winner." J. T. Jamieson's stable is (throwing down the gauntlet to Defaulter. It intends to tackle the New Zealander with High Caste in the Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick next Saturday.
