TWO WASH-OUTS

The Hutt River rose again last evening and this morning at high tide time but did not reach yesterday morning's level, which was nine feet above normal. Two wash-outs have been reported—one on Mr Huse's property at Haywards and the other on the Boulcott golf course, north of Melling. The extent of the damage will not be known until the river returns to normal.

the the

river to any extent, has left a large amount of surface water on the lowlying land in Petone and Lower Hutt. The Automobile Association has been advised that there is sft of water on the main road at Rangiotu, between Himatangi and Palmerston North, and it has been necessary for traffic for Palmerston North to go through Shannon, that road being clear. There is a considerable amount of water on the Foxton-Shannon road. The only difficult slip in the Manawatu Gorge was cleared sufficiently [ this morning to let traffic through. j The Akatarawa Road was reported blocked about half-way through, but the Automobile Association had received no advice this afternoon as to when it would be cleared, '
