CITY WELL SOAKED
OVER-AN INCH OF RAIN
Although somewhat intermittent in character, the rainfall in Wellington yesterday and last night was heavy. The twenty-four hour total recorded at Kelburn up to 9 a.m. today was 126 points. The 42 points which had fallen on the previous day had tended to make the ground sodden, so yesterday's fall has resulted in much water lying about in flat or depressed areas and has caused minor slips and washouts, incidentally making the Hutt Road muddier than ever. Outside the city area the rainfall has been heavier, especially in the Hutt Valley. Cape Palliser has recorded 162 points. The area of heavy rainfall has been confined to the central and southern parts of the North Island, Wellington being on the -fringe of it and escaping the worst. An inch of rain at this time cf the year is nothing abnormal, and the indications are that there will not be any further fall in the immediate future.
