BOMBS AT ICHANG

SHANGHAI, August 17. The Japanese have officially denied the bombing of two British ships and property of the Asiatic Petroleum Company at Ichang"on August 6. The British naval authorities at Shanghai reported on August 6 that two British steamers on the Yangtze were destroyed, and also that property of the Asiatic Petroleum Company was destroyed and a Britisher injured during two Japanese air raids in the vicinity of Ichang. The steamers were the Jardine, Matheson, and Co.'s Kiangwo and Chiawo, which were moored together. A bomb made a direct hit on one, and both were burnt out. Admiral Holt made a strong protest.
