CESSION OF DANZIG

HITLER'S PLAN

REPORTED EXCHANGES AT BERCHTESGADEN

The Danzig correspondent of the "Daily Express" has ascertained that, following a Polish ultimatum, the Nazi leader in Danzig, Herr Foerster, called on Professor Burckhardt, the League Commissioner, and told him that Herr Hitler wanted to see him so that he could personally report the difficulties with the Danzigers. Professor Burckhardt, eager to help, flew with Herr Foerster to Berchtesgaden on Friday.

On his arrival at Herr Hitler's mountain lair, iti is stated, Professor Burckhardt complimented the Fuhrer on the restfulness of his home.

Herr Hitler replied: "Yes; I would like to live here always in quiet and peace." Professor Burckhardt: "The peace of the world is in your hands, your Excellency." Herr Hitler: "No, I am afraid it's not in my hands. I want peace, but there are others who don't."

Herr Hitler unfolded a plan for the cession of Danzig to Germany, preserving a free port for the Poles and building two motor roads across the Corridor, one German and the other Polish. He emphasised his desire for peace. "Last year my advisers tried to put the brakes on me," he said. "Now I am putting the brakes on them."

Professor Burckhardt: "Is a settlement still possible between Germany and Poland on the lines of your proposals?"

Herr Hitler shrugged his shoulders, and said: "The Poles are in pretty deeply now."
