PETONE NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Waterside demonstrated their \v..rtli in con vincing fashion b.v inflicting a sound defeat upon Petone, the previous championship leaders, in nn Auld Cup senii-rinal and championship gamo, aiui c- score of 4 goals to 2 did not Halter Hit* winners. The first halt of the (tame was packed with exciting incident, almost all the play taking place around tlit two goalmouths. There was very little between the teams, as the rate of scoring indicated Waterside got the first goal, Petotie canalised, and each side scored In succession until tht interval. at which Waterside led by ii goals to 2. Opening the second half with a whirlwind onslaught. Waterside bugged their fourth goal. Tilts was their final effort on attack, and thereafter, though they always had the game under control, and indeed widened the margin of their superioiit.v ovei the losers. Waterside were content to fall back on defence, and Petone's persistent raids met with no success. Petona seemed to lose a lot of their dash in this i spell, which contained much less to interest the spectators than did the first half. Taken all round It was an excellent game The scorers for Waterside were K. Ward (3) and Janes, and for Petone Woods and White goaled. The referee was Mr. L. Preston.
