HIDE PRICES IN DUNEDIN.
Messrs. Waters. Ritchie, and Co.. Ltd., Dunedin, report having held their monthly sale last Thursday, when they submitted 2049 hides and yearlings. also 817 calfskins to a full attendance of buyers. Exporters were not very active, but tanners competed freely for all lots suitable to their requirements. Cows and light oxen were firm, with best conditioned lots up to {d dearer; medium-weight oxen generally y shade lower; heavy oxen weighing irom 601b to 701b showed slightly in sellers" favour; over 701b were not quite up to previous rates. Heavy substance iOts. not being in keen request, were about id lower. Yearlings showed improvements up to hd per lb, but calfskins were {d lower. The following quotations are for well-preserved lines:— Oxen: Heavy substance, 7id to lOd; 601b and over, fid to o o-8d: aoib to ojiu, s}d to 6d; 451b to 521b. 4id to sjjd: 331b to 441b. 4-|d to si{-d- Cows: 501b and over, 4|d to 53d; 401b to 491b. 4|d to s*d; 301b to 391b, 4|d to 53d. Yearlings: Heavy, 4Jd to 6£d; light, 4-|d te 7d. Calfskins: Sound. 9£d to 10|d; faulty, 6£d to BJd.
