COMPANIES' OFFER
TO AVERT RAILWAY STRIKE
LONDON, August 2,
The railway companies have offered to meet representatives of the locomotive engineers and firemen to discuss the^fClaims for an increase of Is a day in pay, with twelve instead of six days' annual holidays, which had previously been rejected. The strike threat would involve 53,000 railwaymen.
Concession of the full claims would cost the companies £1,269,000 a. year.
