COLONIAL PROBLEMS
SUGGESTION OF JOINT
COMMITTEE
(British Official Wireless.) (Received August 4, 9 a.m.)
RUGBY, August 2,
In a statement on the recent proposal for a joint Parliamentary committee on colonial questions, the Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain), in the House of Commons today, said the Government appreciated the anxiety of members that an opportunity should be afforded the House of keeping in closer" touch with colonial problems. The particular proposal for a Parliamentatty committee no doubt presented certain advantages, but it raised issues of Parliamentary procedure and constitutional practice of a far-reaching character which required very careful consideration. He hoped to make a more definite statement of the Government's intentions in the autumn.
