WORKING CONDITIONS

The New Zealand Industries Fair, \vhich opens at Christ-church tomorrow, is, according to the Gazette, declared an exhibition within the meaning of the Exhibitions Act, 1910, and the provisions of the Shops and Offices Act, the ■Factories -Act, -the'- industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and all awards and industrial agreements made under the Act are suspended in so far as they affect the fair, subject to certain specified conditions.

A working day is to consist of eight hours worked consecutively except that a break of at least three-quarters of an hour must be allowed for a meal after not more than four hours' work. Persons employed in excess of eight hours or after .10.30 p.m. are to be paid at the rate of not less than timG and a half.
