EFFECT OF WINTER.
(By Telegraph —Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, August' 2,
The yarding of fat cattle at the Burnside stock sale held today numbered 280, the majority being medium to light descriptions, and they were showing the effect of the winter conditions. There was a keen demand from the outset for all quality beef, which was firmer by 10s to 15s a head. Other
grades were easier by 10s a head. The yarding of stores was small, two-and-a-half to three-year steers making to £8 5s A large offering of fat sheep was forward, compared with the 820 of a week ago There was a smaller proportion of prime wethers and ewes, the quality, generally, being poor. A good demand resulted'for the few prime wethers that were forward, and these sold firmly, others suffering a drop of 2s to 3s a head. There was an erratic demand for the sprinkling of hoggets forward. A medium entry of fat pigs included an oversupply of porkers, which eased by 5s a head.
