SiDESHOW AMD DECOY
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., August 1
On a charge of betting with an infant, a sideshowman named Edwin George Valentine Roberts was fined £10 in the Magistrate's Cour* by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M. His assistant, Thomas Andrew O'Loughlin, was fined £5 for a similar offence.
Evidence was given by Vivian James Klink, aged 16 years, that while at the Manawatu Winter Show he was approached by O'Loughlin, who sought information about the show. They then strolled down the lane between the sideshows until they reached a booth where darts were played. Roberts then approached them and suggested a game and Klink told the Court that in ail he put up 32s 6d, and won nothing.
Detective-Sergeant Meiklejohn said Roberts had the stall and O'Loughlin enticed people to play the game. Roberts had had repeated warnings from the police, and had previous convictions.
