SURF LIFE-SAVING
THE LONDON TROPHY
WON BY WELLINGTON
The results of the London Trophy competition, an efficiency contest between the district bodies •of the New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association, have been computed by the adjudicator, bMr. V. L. Allan. The Wellington district wins the trophy for the second year in succession. The trophy, which was presented to the New Zealand Association by the central executive of the Royal Life-saving-Society, is competed for on a points basis. Districts receive credit for new clubs formed, new members gained, bronze and surf medallions ! won, educational and inter-club dis- ! plays, and teams representing the disjtrict .at the New Zealand championj ships. The total number of points is divided by the number of clubs in the district at the beginning of the season. Wellington gained 19.83 points. Taranaki 14.83. Canterbury 9.85, and Auckland 6.93. Otago gained 15.83 points, ibut the lateness of the district in completing the figures deprived it of second place. Starting the season with six clubs, Wellington formed two new ones, Titahi Bay and Paraparaumu, and gained 128 new members. Forty-eight members qualified for the bronze medallion of the Royal Life-saving Society, and 47 for the surf medallion of the association. There were five inter-club and .five, educational dis-
plays, and three clubs sent teams to the. New Zealand championships at Auckland, two with notable success.
Wellington had the biggest list of new members, with Auckland second. Auckland were first in number of awards gained. .The total points, without division, were:—Wellington 119, Auckland 111, Taranaki 97J, Canterbury 69, and Otago 47£.
