ARBOR DAY AT TE ARO

Arbor Day was celebrated at Te Aro School "by the planting of fifty trees. The speakers were Mr. D. H. Wilmot,

the headmaster, and Mr. G. E. Beckett, of the Wellington Beautifying Society. In.his address to the children Mr. Beckett commented on the beautiful site which the school possessed. It could be rendered still more beautiful by the planting of suitable trees.

Among those who planted trees were Messrs. Beckett and Richardson, of the Wellington Beautifying Society, Mesdames Vincent, McKenzie, O'Donnell, Tennent, and Kilner on behalf of the school committee and ladies' auxiliary, Misses O'Shea and Webb and Mesdames Stewart and Ross, of the school staff. The pohutukawas, with their blood red blooms, in years to come will form a striking foreground to the school. Silver birches were also planted.

Children from the upper classes took part, and altogether the occasion was a great success. Parents were entertained at afternoon tea by the ladies' auxiliary.
