TWO-YEAR-OLDS SPRINT

PALMERSTON N., This Day. There was a fair amount or fast work at Awapuni on Saturday morning, and an interesting item was. . a sprint down tho straight by four-ris-ing two-year-olds. The youngsters were a Siegfried—Speechless .filly, a full-sister to Brunhild owned in partnership by Mr. R. Holden and Luke Wilson, King's Mark, the Hall Mark colt . owned by Mr. W. J.. Crawford, Miss Hallomet, a speedy Night Fox--Hallomet filly owned by Mr, J. B. Cresswell, of Stratford, and Chary, an Inflation—ldle Talk colt owned by Mr. M. C. Gould, of Raetihi. The. Siegfried filly, a big, lazy youngster, was slow to begin, but the others were quickly away, Miss Hallomet showing the way to the post, with Chary and King's Mark following at intervals of a length. It was Imi possible to time them, but the quartet moved very nicely. Mr. H. E. Edmunds will have a number of Inflation youngsters out at Awapuni this season, including a filly from Lady Court, a filly from. Hallovonia, owned by Mr. C. F. Cronm, of Palmerston North, and another from the Sarto—Ecarte mare Kono, owned by Mr. F. Roberts, a brother-of the late D. H. Roberts, who bred Kono. The Bigot and The Buzzer were net off the bit in running five furlongs in lmin 12sec. Rollaway and Patalu sprinted a similar distance in a shade better, the last three taking 41 3-ssec. Disdain worked over three furlongs but was not asked to go much better than three-quarter pace. She is coming along well. Hanover, Riotous, and Bridegroom were each given strong working gallops over a mile, and all finished with plenty cf clash. Conveyer was worked on the sand, but Catalogue. Power Chief, and Old Surrey were galloped before breakfast. Onahau sprinted a smart three fur-longs-in 40isec, and Girl Pat ran six, finishing satisfactorily Old Bill, who looks a picture, worked over five furlongs, running the last two smartly and being allowed to coast along for the last three. La Bru slipped over three furlongs in 42 3-ssec, and Cuisinier was timed to run the last five of seven in lmin 12 3-3f.ee.

Vesty, who has been qualified and is to have his first race in the Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeplechase, had his initial gallop on the track and showed a fair turn ot speed over five furlongs. He is a big, powerful horse, and it is reported that he is a fine natural jumper. The latest three furlongs of the morning was recorded by Quadroon and Moradabad, who registered 39 3-sscc, Quadroon being in front.
