MARKETS SLOW
AN OFFICIAL REVIEW
The Dairy Board by arrangement with the Marketing Department, reports the butter market as "slow" in London on Saturday. Prices quoted for salt butters, with those for the week before, were:— Per cwt. I'cr cwt. July S. July 15. New Zealand . 124/- 120/Australian ... 110/- to 117/- Jl7/Danisli, spot . 125/- to 127/- 130/- to 131/Polish .109/- to 110/- 110/- to 111/Irish 111/- to 112/- 121/Dutch • 111/- to 112/- 110/- to 111/Unsalted butter quotations are as follows:—New Zealand, not quoted; Australian, 116s to. 117s; Dutch, 110s to 113s; Polish, 110s to Ills; Lithuanian, 112s to 114s. The store position of butter at later t date of advices compared with that of a year ago was as follows:— July 14.1939. July 14, 1935. Tons Tons New Zealand 5820 7487 Australian ' 5835 4554 The price of New Zealand butter at 126s per cwt is equal to approximately 15.13 d per lb, f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d per lb, f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124s 3d per cwt The equivalent price of cheese is about 7.49 d per lb, f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Danish butter is selling retail at Is 3d per lb, or Id per lb above New Zealand. The market for New Zealand cheese was advised as "quiet." Wholesale prices for cheese compare as follows:— Ter cwt.
