YON NIDA'S ABSENCE

NEW YORK, July 5.
Golf circles expressed surprise at the London report of the failure of N. yon Nida (Australia).to participate in Uie British open, wfiich also caused surprise there. It is learned that yon Nida returned to Australia immediately folowing the United States openIt is not known whether he .changed his mind or whether he never intended to participate in the British open.
When yon Nida was .in New Zealand a few months ago it was his in--1 tention to compete in the British and i American open tournaments. He was not satisfied with his form in the American event, however, and a cable message published in Australia a month ago stated that he had changed his mind and was returning home. Yon INida pointed out that he had been | married only eight months. I
