FLOODS IN KENTUCKY

HIGH DEATH TOLL

RESULT OF CLOUDBURST

(Received July 6, 2.30 p.m.)

NEW YORK, July 5.

A cloudburst which resulted in floods in Kentucky took a toll of at least 38 lives among communities in north-eastern parts of the State and rendered many thousands homeless. Streams which are usually small, such as the Triplett and the Tygart, which flow from the picturesque hill country, in a few moments became raging torrents which swept all before them, trapping inhabitants in their homes and destroying much property.

It is feared that a further check will disclose a much higher death toll.
