OBITUARY
MR. LOUIS WAIN
(Received July 6, 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 5. The death has occurred of Mr. Louis Wain, artist.
Louis William Wain was born in London in 1860 and studied music until, in 1879, he decided to become an artist. He was an assistant master at the West London School of Art from 1881 to 1882 and first drew the cats which made him famous in 1883. In 1882 he joined the staff of the "Sporting and Dramatic News'" and later was on the staff of the "New York American" for a time. He was connected with many organisations working for animals and was president of the National Cat Club. He published a large number oil cat and kitten books.
