EXHIBITION ACCOMMODATION

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—The lack of accommodation for Exhibition visitors is causing concern to the authorities, and steps are being taken to cope with the problem, but the plight of the present inhabitants of boarding-houses is urgent. We are having our charges increased out of all reason, while threats of having to seek other board in November hang over our heads. Many of our friends have actually been given notice. Are the authorities aware that people are guaranteeing boarding-house keepers that they will fill their rooms for the Exhibition period at 10s per head for bed and breakfast? What these speculators will charge the public is not known. How can we pay £3 10s per week to retain our rooms? This is exclusive of washing and gives only one meal a day. + We are forced by circumstances to live in Wellington, and some action should be taken to "prevent our exploitation. We have no Fair Rents Act to protect us, and prompt legislation is necessary.—l am, etc.,,
