THE FLOWER GARDEN

The main work in the flower garden at this season is rose pruning and planting of new roses and all varieties of shrubs, trees, hedges, etc. Endeavour to keep down, chickweed and other weeds. Even when the ground is too wet to walk on much may be done by working from the paths or the edge of the beds. Hardy seedlings may be put out when available. In the warmer localities early-planted seedlings give the best results. Cut down the old flowering stems of chrysanthemums, loosen the soil round the clumps, and give a little fertiliser to encourage new growth. A dusting of lime or wood ashes over carnations will help to check any disease. Lift and store dahlia tubers. See that they are properly labelled.
