THE WEEK'S WORK
THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
Very little can be done on the ground while it is saturated. Digging or tramping over wet soil, especially i£ of a heavy nature does a lot of harm.
Whenever conditions are favourable continue with the digging or trenching of all vacant plots, leaving the surface rough. Prepare the beds, for onions. Dig deeply, manure well, and thoroughly break down all lumps. Autumn-sown onions may be planted out on well-worked beds which have been enriched. Plant with the roots only in the ground, the bulbs being on the surface. Earth up cabbages and cauliflowers which are advanced. All growing props should be kept free from weeds.
