NEW CHAIRMAN
MR. MARTIN ELECTED
The Hon. B. Martin (Auckland) was elected Chairman of Committees of the Legislative Council by secret ballot yesterday afternoon. The retiring chairman, the Hon. J. A. Hanaii (Otago) did not seel? re-election.
Mr. Martin was well fitted for thq position, the Leader of the Council (the Hon. Mark ' Fagan) • said, when announcing the result- of the ballot, Mr. Martin had had a lengthy experJU ence of local and public body work.
Mr. Fagan also paid a tribute to the chairmanship of Mr, Hanan, whose Parliamentary service commenced in 1899, and who was elected Chairman of Committees in 1932 and re-elected in 1935, During his term in office his ruling had never been contested-
Mr, Martin was complimented and tributes were oaid to Mr, Hanan by several other Councillors.
