CONTROL OF FRUIT
CANTERBURY OPPOSITION Canterbury fruitgrowers, at their branch meeting of the federation, held yesterday, were strongly opposed to the Government taking over the marketing of fruit for the reason given that there is no evidence to prove that the procedure will bring ■ any benefit to the producers; and, further, that it is likely to increase the cost to the consumer. . A resolution embodying these views was proposed by Mr. N. Goldsbury and carried by acclamation, states the ! "Star-Sun." The resolution was in direct conflict with the annual report of the federation, which stated that the directors and-the members of the Fruit Board, meeting separately, both passed resolutions asking the Go.vernment to bring the industry, as far as pip fruits were concerned, under the provisions of the Government's guaranteed price plan.
