FARM WORKERS AND EFFICIENCY
-. ~. . »l . . . A remit urging the union to press for a standard of efficiency before farm workers can qualify for full award rates was adopted by the Manawatu provincial executive of the Farmers' Union yesterday, states "The Post's" Palmerston North representative. The spohsors declared that with the high (rate of pay offering on public works, many of the men ,left for farm occupations were the misfits in other jobs. There should be a standard of efficiency for a wage which was the equivalent of £3 12s 6d. Other members of the executive thought that if the Government would provide a subsidy on farm wages, there would be an inducement for the good farm worker to return to the land, which was what the Government wanted.
