SECRETARY'S STATEMENT
A statement made by a member of the executive of the War Relief Association of Wellington at the last meeting that the ex-servicemen in the Paraparaumu Camp now had to pay for their meals and consequently had only 3s 6d to 4s left out of the 17s 6d they received weekly, was mentioned by the secretary (Mr. F. C. Bailey) with reference to the report of the meeting that appeared in "The Post."
Mr. Bailey said that advice had been received from the Public Works Department to the effect that the men in the camp received approximately £1 per week plus their keep, and do not at any time have to pay for meals supplied by the Department.
"It is unfortunate that the information supplied to a member of my executive committee was incorrect," Mr. Bailey stated, "and in fairness to the Public Works Department I would be pleased if you would correct the statement made."
