SWAM OUT FOR DUCK

PIGEON BUSH RESIDENT

FEATHERSTON, June 11

A duck-shooting fatality occurred yesterday afternoon, a single man, Mr. Percy Baron, aged 25, being drowned in Lake Wairarapa at a spot opposite Pigeon Bush. Out shooting with his brother-in-law, Mr. Thomas Miller, he undressed and swam out into the lake to retrieve a bird that had been shot. He secured the bird, but was overcome while returning to shore.

Mr. Miller, who could not swim, waded out as far as possible to give assistance, but could not reach (he victim and experienced some difficulty in getting back himself.

Dragging operations were undertaken yesterday and today by a party of twenty men 'under Constable A. McLeod, -Featherston. and the body was recovered this afternoon. f>

Mr. Baron was a son of Mr. William Baron, farmer, Pigeon Bush, and worked with his father on the farm. An inquest will be held in Pigeon Bush tomorrow morning.
