SMOKE CONCERT
BANK OFFICERS' GUILD
The annual smoke concert of the New Zealand Bank Officers' Guild was held last night, the president (Mr. E. G. Edwards) presiding over a large number of members.
Following the loyal toast, the president proposed the toast of "The Banks," and the reply was .made by Mr. R. C. Addison, chairman of the Associated Banks.
The toast of "The Guild" was proposed by Professor B. E. Murphy, who emphasised the importance of getting back to the basic principles embodied in the sanctity of contract. In any society, Capitalist or Socialist, he said, it was essential that men should be bound by their pledged word.
The secretary of the guild (Mr. C. A. R. Brunt) replied.
Other toasts were: —"Kindred Organisations," proposed by Mr. H. F. yon Haast, and replied to by Mr. L. H. Steel, president of the Dominion executive of the P. and T. Officers' 'Guild; "The Visitors," proposed by Mr. E. C. Little and replied to by Mr. R. T. Marlow.
Items were given by Messrs. .K. Macaulay, A. L. Elston, K. H. Logic, and N. C. Clapp.
