THE TRUE SPIRIT
OLYMPIC MOVEMENT
IMPORTANCE STRESSED
(British Official Wireless.) (Received June 7, noon.) RUGBY, June 6. The Duke of Gloucester, opening the thirty-sixth session of the International Olympic Committee at St. James's Palace, said:— "The growing realisation of the importance of physical fitness and of sane interest in sport is shared alike by all the nations represented here today. To promote friendly rivalry in athletic contests with all the qualities which true sportsmanship denotes—such as respect for one's opponent, modesty in victory, and fortitude in defeat—is the most important task of the international Olympic movement."
