MARKET RATES OF INTEREST
(To the Editor.) Sir, —As the Government has proved beyond doubt by the terms at which it has offered and been able to float its big loan, that 3h per cent, is not a fair rate of interest to offer its clients and investors, is it not more than time that the Public Trust Office at once raised its rate of interest to beneficiaries to at least 4 1-8 or 4£ per cent? Indeed, these rates are not the full advantages given by the loan, since the certificates and bonds are usable for the purpose of death duties, and it would be nearer the mark to say that 4| to 4 3-8 is the correct market price even for the best Government securities. A little publicity on the part of the "Evening Post" would jog the pace of the authorities and serve a good purpose all round.—l am, etc., INTERESTED.
