A CROWDED "HOUSE"

A large and enthusiastic audience of members and friends of the Cercle Francais recently enjoyed a programme arranged by Madame de Filippi. Madame Bendall presided and Miss Eleanor Pharazyn was hostess. Miss Dorothy Downing played, as an overture, two pianoforte solos, followed by two violin solos by Miss Pauline Craig, accompanied by Miss Shirley Craig. Madame de Filippi gave an amusing short causerie, entitled "Petite legon d'etymologie," and told some short and witty stories connected with certain French words.

A sketch in two scenes, "II faut S'attendre a tout," which had been written by Madame de Filippi for production at the Cercle Francais followed, and was most successful. Mr. O. A. Gillespic played the part of a young architect, Miss Coralie Smythson taking the part of his wife. Miss Eleanor Pharazyn was very successful in her role of the derni mondaine, and Miss Frances Huntington in her part as servant of the Turbot household. The play was introduced by Madame de Filippi.

Madame Betts-Vincent sang three French songs, as well as two seventeenth century songs arranged *,by Weckerlin. A short comedy, "Bouton d'Avril," was played by Madame de Filippi as the old actress, Mr. Wynne Mason who took the part of the representative of a beauty company. Mr. K. J. Hollyman, and Miss Frances Huntington. The singing of the Marseillaise and supper concluded a successful evening.

The supper was arranged by Miss Robertson and Madame Kay. Madame Logic, Madame Miles, Madame Finlayson, and Miss Lilian Smith conducted the conversation class. At the next meeting of the Cercle Francais Madame Finlayson will present "Les Femmes Say antes" by Moliere,
