AIR TRAVEL
BUSY WEEKEND SERVICES
The increasing popularity of air travel at weekends which are followed by a holiday on the Monday was clearly demonstrated at the King's Birthday weekend, when some 450 passengers ■ travelled between Wellington, Blenheim, and Nelson by the Cook Strait Airways services between Friday and yesterday. On Saturday eight extra trips were run across Cook Strait, and accommodation on these and the ordinary trips on Sunday was booked considerably in advance. Although no extra trips were made by Union Airways services, all the planes were fully booked.
An official of Cook Strait Airways stated today that the public patronage of air services at weekends had definitely exceeded what had been anticipated. Although, of course, last weekend's traffic could not be compared to that of Christmas and Easter, it had been very heavy.
Late yesterday afternoon fog and bad flying conditions necessitated the cancellation of three trips in the Cook Strait service, two for Nelson and one from Nelson for Wellington.
