"There seems to be a great extension of after-hour trading and the committee wants to warn licensees that if it does not stop drastic. measures will have to be taken," said Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., chairman of the Wellington Licensing Committee, at its annual meeting today. Mr. Stout said that the police might exercise a little more supervision to prevent after-hour trading, which had increased largely in the last twelve months.

Concerning the condition of hotel premises Inspector Sweeney said that the police found everything satisfactory except .at Barrett's Hotel, where necessary fire-escape facilities were now being provided.

Reference to after-hour trading at the Gresham Hotel was made by Mr. Stout in adjourning for three months the application of E. F. Ward for a renewal of his licence for the hotel. If there was no improvement the committee would have to ask the owners to get a new licensee, said Mr. Stout. The applications of A. G. Ward for a renewal of the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel licence, of J. O'Hanlon for a renewal of the Victoria Hotel licence, and of D. Cremins for a renewal of the Dominion Hotel licence were also adjourned for three months. RENEWALS GRANTED. The following licences were renewed: — H. J. D. Tower, St. George Hotel M. M.
