SECOND DANCE

WELLINGTON SWING CLUB

The dance arranged by the Wellington Swing Club at the Southern Colledge studio last week was exceptionally well planned on American lines. It featured several "swing" numbers and those who could swing step or who were willing to try demonstrated the natural ease with which it can be done and the pleasure derived from it. The band's new microphone was "christened" by Miss Noeline Nelson, the club's vocalist, who sang special "swing" songs.

The announcements, "pep-songs," and patter were arranged by two swing leaders, who also amusingly demonstrated a new swing chain dance to the club's signature song. Most of those present successfully proved themselves to be "swing fans" by correctly answering a novel questionnaire. At about 11 p.m. guests received a pleasant surprise by the arrival of the "original Big Apple dancers" of the "Hollywood Hotel Revue Company," who joined in the dancing with zest. Mr. "Snooky" Beasley, on behalf of the American dancers, gave a short talk on swing dancing and complimented members of the Wellington Club on their enthusiasm. The dance concluded with items by the club's band, which gave special swing versions of "Lights Out" and "Auld Lang Syne." The committee comprised the Misses Pamela Alexander, Nola Duthie, Pat Masterson, Beth McCallum, and Messrs. Lindsay Anderson, Lloyd Bardsley, Lindsay Constable, Ken Lorn, Pierre Morine, and Peter Renai.
