FRENCH CLUB

ENTERTAINING SOCIAL

The opening social of the Y.W.C.A. French Club was held in the Boulcott Street building recently. Madame Finlayson, who conducts the club, was present, together with Miss E. Bennell, the senior activities secretary of the Y.W.C.A., and Miss F. Huntingdon. Miss Valeric Verco, club president, welcomed new members and explained that its object was to afford an opportunity for girls who had achieved a fair degree of efficiency in the language to continue their interest in it and improve their conversational powers.

A very jolly social hour followed, Misses Jeannette Turnpenny, Marie McCrae, V. Verco, and Valeric Dawson being the hostesses. A treasure hunt, following clues written in French. caused considerable excitement. All then joined in the singing of French folk songs and dancing of folk dances. The play "Rosalie," as read by Misses Jean Turnpenny, Marie McCrae, and Valeric Dawson, was much appreciated. Charades, in the acting of which everyone took part, also provided much fun, and competitions were held.

Among those present were Misses Ruth Dawson, Gay Steeds, Mira Parsons, Joan Dowry, Joan Fuller, Shirley Kay, Frances Banzoni, Susan Newlands, Alison Hanger, Shona Bell, Alison McKay, Stancie Innes, Gloria Devereux, Trixie Hamilton, Dudleigh Houston, Margot Grace, Jeannette Turnpenny, Marie McCrae, Claudia Simon, Joyce Edwards, Bunty Butler, Valeric Dawson, and Valeric Verco.
