TWO OTHERS INJURED

ON HAYWARDS ROAD

One man .was killed and two others were injured when the car in which they were travelling towards Wellington left, the Pahautanui-Haywards road last night, about three miles from its junction with the Western Hutt Road.

The victims of the accident were: —

Peter Imlay Frederick Saunders, aged 25, an accountant, of 28 Grant Road, Wellington, killed.

Jack Shelly, company manager of 62b Duncan Terrace, Wellington, lacerated wounds to scalp and concussion.

Sidney Archibald Wiren, solicitor, of 43 Sefton Street, Wellington, injuries to neck and shoulder and concussion.

The- accident occurred about a mile ■on the Wellington side of Pahautanui, shortly before 10 o'clock. The party was returning from Wanganui." It is understood that the car failed to take a left-hand bend, and, leaving the road, struck a rock face. It is believed that Mr. Wiren was driving, although the car belonged to Mr. Shelly. The Free Ambulance was summoned by telephone at 11.50 p.m., and the injured men were taken to the Wellington Hospital, where their condition today was stated to be satisfactory. . The car was completely wrecked. The late Mr. Saunders, who was 25 years of age last Saturday, was well known in Wellington business and sporting circles. > He was born .. at Wanganui and was a son of Mr. I. B. Saunders, land agent and sharebroker. He was educated at Wanganui College. He had been in Wellington for several years and at the time of his death was in the employ of Mr. Paul Gillingham, public accountant. Mr. Saunders recently completed his accountancy studies and received his Public Ac-1 countant's Certificate only • last week. He was a -well-known active member of the Star Boating Club and was a member of the Hutt Golf Club. He was also keenly interested in shooting and tramping. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, and other near relatives.
