TAKANINI STATISTICS

(Special to the "Evenino Post.")

TAKANINI, May 11,

The £460 won by Takanini-trained i horses at the recent Franklin Meeting increases the stake-earnings of local horses.to £20,741 for the season, and the figures constitute a record, the previous best being in the 1930-31 season, when £20,320 was amassed from 75 winners. At the moment 73 winners have been prepared this term. Arvakur has returned to work after | a spell. This season his record has been a blank, but this can be attributed to a wind affliction, which seriously affected him. Noisy Night was ineligible to compete in the maiden event at the Franklin Meeting, but J. Cruses charge is in the right order and will be produced in the near future. This trainer is hopeful that Veritable will soon break the sequence of minor placings that has been his lot at recent fixtures. . ... Takanini is without a representative in any of the jumping events at the Waikato Meeting, but is well represented in the flat events, and among those engaged at the meeting are Bachelor King, Tepoto, Romani, Hunter's Rose, Vaalsstar, Round Up, Valamito, High Sea, Inquisitor, Inver, Ivy Willonyx, Brazilian, Valimeen, Jack Tar, Anion, and Saccone. There is every possibility of most of them fulfilling their engagements. Palustre has been relegated to the paddock after racing at Pukekohe. The Tea Tray mare looked in particularly good order but apparently suffered a lapse of form. Estro, who showed excellent promise for a maiden but went amiss at the last Waikato Meeting, is again under E. Pope's guidance, having been treated to a blister while spelling. A double winner at the last Avondale Meeting, Bronwen is being prepared for the coming June fixture at Ellerslie, where, in addition to hack events, she has been nominated for the King George Handicap. Brazilian has never been better than at present, and his record of seven wins this season is likely to be increased in the near future. He is engaged in the open sprint at the Waikato Meeting, and indications are that he is going to take a lot of beating.

High Sea is a lightweight prospect for the big handicap on Saturday week at Te Rapa. Unlucky in the running at Pukekohe, he came from a long way back to fill fourth berth, and as the big, roomy track at Te Rapa will be to his liking, he is sure to find favour.
